Parks & Rec Board

About Us

In 1980, the Board of Supervisors established the Park and Recreation Board and appointed seven residents to serve 5 year terms. The Board develops, plans and oversees a variety of recreational activities and makes recommendations of matters pertaining to the public park and recreational activities. In 2012, the Board of Supervisors hired Anthea Stebbins as the Park and Recreation Director.

The Park and Recreation Board meets on the first Monday of most months in the Municipal Building beginning at 7:00pm. All meetings are open to the public.

Steve Espenshade

Term: 2017-2021

Steve has been an East Hanover resident for over 50 years. Throughout this time he has been involved in many different activities in the township. He grew-up in the youth and teen baseball programs, then coached his own children through the baseball, softball, and soccer programs. As a “thank you” to all who gave of their time and talents to support activities for him and his children, Steve joined the Park and Recreation Board to do the same for others, to continue to support activities for the residents of East Hanover Township. After nine years of serving on the Board, Steve still enjoys the delight of those attending the varied events provided by the Board. He is also committed to continuing the development of the Community Park to become a place for residents both young and old to enjoy.

Karen Henry

Term: 2017-2021

Karen has been an East Hanover resident since 2004. She is serving her second term as a parks and recreation board member. Karen joined the board as a way to serve her community and out of a personal interest in physical health for the members of the community.

David Hamaty

Term: 2013-2017

Karen Zemitis

Term: 2014-2018

Karen’s family of four moved to East Hanover Township in the spring of 2001. They loved all the EHT P&R activities that were offered. From the Bunny and Santa Breakfast, to Park Day and the Summer Rec. Program, their family looked forward to being a part of it all. When an opening came up on the P&R Board, Janet Espenshade, the P&R Director at that time, asked if she would be interested in applying for it. Karen was honored, put in her resume, and was welcomed to the board in 2008. For Karen, there is nothing more gratifying than seeing a child’s face light up. She has been given the wonderful opportunity to do this for families when they are at one of the many P&R functions. All of the P&R activities give her rewarding experiences. They allow her to contribute to being part of other family’s lives as they are enjoying everything from a country hayride after carving a pumpkin to jumping in the inflatable Moon Bounce at Park Day. The P&R board is a great way to meet families, make friends, and be a part of their lives. Karen enjoys being able to carry on the old traditions and functions of the P&R Program, as well as starting new ones for her growing community.

Term: 2016-2020

Laurie Reichert and her husband, Kirby, have been residents of East Hanover Township since 1992. Laurie formerly was a director on the Lower Dauphin School Board and the Capital Area Intermediate Unit Board. In 2015, she decided to focus her efforts on East Hanover Township by serving on the Park, Recreation, Open Space Comprehensive and Master Site Plan Study Committee. She enjoys exercising outdoors and frequently can be seen running on routes 443 and 743 as she trains for marathons. Her husband has been farming in East Hanover Township since 1989. Laurie encourages health and fitness for individuals of all ages. She wants to contribute to the improvement of East Hanover Township’s recreational activities and enrich the lives of Township residents by providing them with ample places to exercise and socialize. She looks forward to community involvement during her term on the Board and beyond.

Yvonne Sharrow

Term: 2017-2020

Yvonne has been a resident of East Hanover Township since 1991. Her two daughters have attended many of the events offered by the Park & Rec Board. While her children attended East Hanover Elementary School, she was a PTO volunteer and helped to start and build the Health & Wellness Committee. Yvonne also volunteered for many events offered by the PTO. She taught preschool at the Grantville Nursery School for seven years, which was a huge part of her achieving a degree in early elementary education through Penn State Harrisburg. In 2014, Yvonne accepted the position of assistant director for the Summer Playground Program offered by the Park and Rec Board. She loves to be a part of the lives of children, so this was a perfect job for her. Yvonne sees her commitment to the East Hanover Park and Rec Board as a way to continue her connections with the families of East Hanover Township.
